Club CO₂ was formed in 2002 on the initiative of ADEME and with the support of IFP and BRGM, the latter acting as secretary.

It is a key element in the organization of French research in the field of carbon capture and storage. It is in fact a response to the need to manage national efforts more effectively, while giving them better public visibility. The members of the Club, which is chaired by ADEME, are all key players in industry, research and development.

As a clearinghouse for information, dialogue and good practices among its members in the area of research and technological developments concerning CO₂ capture, transport and storage, the Club encourages cooperation at national level between the public and private sectors, and several research projects have been started under its initiative.
